Corrective Surgery Program
|
|
In 1998, ACWP first developed the Corrective Surgery Program (CSP), in partnership with Hue Medical School and General Hospital, to help the poor, disabled children in Central Vietnam. Most often, the children registered for these services are victims of childhood illnesses which have left these children with reduced or limited mobility. Other children also served under CSP are those born with birth defects such as cleft palate, cleft lip, club foot, deformity of arms/legs, conditions which are medically correctable, but financially unobtainanble for most parents. The cost of surgery, treatment, and hospitalization deters most parents.

Life involves unforeseen events which one can only predict occurrence but not timeframe. For the majority of the rural poor or homeless or disadvantaged families, living means simply planning for day to day or week to week. Contingency planning is not part of life and thus, when natural disaster strikes, they are the most affected. In some rural areas, help is not immediate or secondary due to lack of infrastructure to support trucks for delivery of relief from larger international relief or rescue NGOs.
ACWP’s ERP offers aid and relief to areas where accessibility is more limited and with greater hardship due to lack of infrastructure. In the event of natural catastrophe, ACWP's ERP (Emergency Relief Program) provides food, clothing, medicine and small monetary aid directly to children and families who were affected by natural disaster - floods, typhoons, and hurricanes.

In 1999, ACWP started the Mobile Healthcare Program (MHP) which administers basic medical assistance to impoverished children and adults in rural areas, such as Binh Thanh, Cong Quan 1, Duong Hoa, Hai Duong, Huong Toan, Hong Tien, Huong Binh, Phong Thu and Quan An in Central Region of Vietnam. These poor villages, small cities, or communities lack healthcare infrastructures and are often economically and medically underdeveloped. Since the majority of people are not financially stable, they have limited or no access to basic medical care. Consequently, their children face greater risk for malnourishment, dengue fever, parasitic diseases, and other preventable epidemics caused by the adverse climate, natural disasters, poverty, and improper hygiene.
