22 Years of Helping Disadvantaged Children

“BLOOM SAIGON ” Fundraising Event
Saturday - March 20th, 2010
6:pm-11pm

Orchard Pavilion Hall
(Sunnyvale Community Center)
550 E Remington Drive
Sunnyvale, CA 94088

Inspired by the concept that emphasizes empowerment through providing accessible health care, nutrition, education, and hands-on experiences, Aid for Children Without Parents (ACWP) first developed BLOOM, a vocational training  restaurant in Hue to complete the cycle of empowerment for the disadvantaged children in Vietnam.

On March 20th, ACWP will be hosting an event at Orchard Pavilion Hall (Sunnyvale Community Center) from 6  to 11 pm to raise awareness and fund to build a sister restaurant and Vocational training Center in south Vietnam - BLOOMSaigon.  Please come to enjoy an elegant evening with complimentary fine wine and hors d’ouvres, signature 4 -course dinner prepared by one of the Bay Area’s finest chefs and memorable musical performance by talented artists. Flower decoration by Duc Quach.

ACWP first training restaurant, BLOOM, was Hue’s first vocational facility, which debuted in December 2007.  Despite the overwhelming support from our ACWP donors and volunteers, Mai Nguyen, the executive director for ACWP, recounted operational challenges that are typical of any restaurant start-ups.

With 22 years behind ACWP’s effort, our mission to help empower the disadvantaged children have not waned, added Benjamin Lee, chairman for ACWP.   As expected, BLOOMHue immediately attracted foodies and philanthropic supporters alike from the beginning – and the support continues two years later.

BLOOMHue has drawn international attention for its mission to provide a hands-on restaurant experience for the ACWP’s disadvantaged youths who graduated from its animal husbandry and elementary education programs.   The restaurant provides a venue for the young adults to test out their dreams and change their vocational training program as they discover new passion or refine their skills.

Every year, ACWP recruits 10 to 15 trainees aged between 16 and 21 from disadvantaged backgrounds in our 9-months program.  Priorities are given to ACWP recipients from the Cattle Raising Program and Education Scholarship whose commitment have been further developed for long-term independence and success.  Since 2008, ACWP have successfully trained two groups of ACWP graduates with over 30 trainees - 4 of whom were recruited for nearby Hue’s restaurant, deli or have opened their own food stand. Many of them have found the jobs with good earning.

This rare training opportunity is made possible and continued today by ACWP supporters such as yourself to give a hand-up for these young adults to enter adulthood as self-sufficient, skillful, and confident adults.

The purpose for BLOOMHue and BLOOMSaigon is to provide vocational training at the restaurant. This experience will provide the disadvantaged young adults with practical tools and materials to learn specific skills to which they can market themselves in the real working world  and seek out ways to help prevent children from being trafficked.

ACWP believes that most of the children in poverty are motivated and works hard to survive, but due to lack of education, skills, and family resources, no one is willing to give them an opportunity for advancement.  Bloom Trainees' eyes and minds are open and eager to learn as they are filled with hope for a better tomorrow.

Please join ACWP and sponsors such as Nuoc Mam Viet Huong, Le  Colonial, Claudine Catering Impression, Flower Décor by Duc Quach, Saiko Japanese Restaurant, Bijan Bakery, Tri's (Baysidebistro)  Catering Service  on Saturaday March 20th at 6 pm to help make a concept into reality for the disadvantaged students’ at BLOOM in Saigon.

Aid to Children Without Parents’  2009 Tet Festival
Awareness Booth Raised $3,185
for the children in Hue, Vietnam

ACWP celebrated this year's TET by participating two TET festivals in San Jose. The event was attended and supported by long time ACWP donors, curious new supporters and volunteers who enjoyed the TET festivities while supporting programs that will help children in Vietnam.

TET on-lookers visited the ACWP table for greater awareness and updates on our ACWP programs and its impacts, perused and bought Vietnam-made Arts & Crafts, have their kids' face painted, and before leaving, captured their children and loved ones’ happy images while standing beside intricately-made hoa mai.

Thank you to all of our supporters at ACWP’s 2nd TET Festival Event!

'Tis the Season for Giving.....

It's the Holiday Event of the Season. On Tuesday, December 23, 2008,  will play host to our second Holiday Charity Ball,a fund raising event to raise funds for ACWP's Children In Crisis Program, a program that was established in 2004 to help economically disadvantaged and high-risk Vietnamese children from "children trafficking."

An evening of entertainment, food, song, and dance, will not only provide an intimate platform for everyone to network and socialize, but an opportunity for our local communities to get together and help those in need. The event will kick off at approximately 7:00 pm with Hors d'oeuvres and drinks provided, courtesy of Motif Restaurant & Club and Bayside Bistro's Terrence Khuu.

Live band entertainment by Saigon Social Club featuring singers: Kimo Huynh, Quynh Vy, Anthony, Lorie Minh-chau, and other special guests. Dancing will commence shortly after the pre-party mingling with DJ Def-Con and Kimo, spinning Progressive House, Trance, Mash-ups and Hip-Hop. Joining the festivity will be our special guests: 2008 NorCal Hoa Hau Queen and Court.

What better time than this upcoming holiday, to give a little to those who need it the most. In poverty-stricken countries such as Vietnam, a little definitely goes a long way. Tickets will be available for sale via response to this evite, or at the door. The cost per ticket is $20 at the door as donation and there will be gift give away when you purchase $10 raffle ticket. All proceeds, including toy donations will go to Aid the Children Without Parents , so if you're in the spirit this year, please do give with your heart...It may not seem much, but for children in need, it is much more than they dreamed of.
